Ngāti Koata Trust

Nau mai ki te pae tukutuku o Ngāti Koata Trust.

The Ngāti Koata Trust is the mandated representative voice of the Ngāti Koata people. These people are the descendants of the 262 Tūpuna who settled and established rights in Te Tau Ihu following the Tūku of Tūtepourangi. The Ngāti Koata Trust is guided by kaumātua and governed by the Ngāti Koata Board of Trustees.

The Ngāti Koata Trust is the Charitable Trust established under the terms of our Deed of Settlement and is part of the Ngāti Koata Group.

Our mission is to create an environment in which Ngāti Koata can flourish and our guiding principle is to support the wellbeing of our people, places and treasures.

‘Tiaki tangata, tiaki taiao, tiaki taonga.’

From our administrative offices in Whakatū (Nelson), the Trust develops programmes and initiatives that aim to build the social, economic, cultural and spiritual capacity and wellbeing of Ngāti Koata members wherever they may be.

A particular focus is cultural revitalisation, which includes initiatives to reconnect members with their sense of identity and whakapapa, primarily through te reo.

Our values include:

  • Kaitiakitanga
  • Whanaungatanga
  • Whakatupuranga
  • Āhuatanga
  • Mātauranga,rangatiratanga
  • Kotahitanga
  • Manaakitanga
  • Wairuatanga.

Ko Whakatū te Marae
Nō reira tēnā kōutou katoa.
